In a healthy dog, gastric mucosa is physiologically stimulated by many elements to produce gastric juices that are essential for digestion, but also mucus to protect against high acidity. If physical or chemical stimuli alter this delicate balance, gastric structure and function can be compromised and gastritis will occur.
